Top-Seeded Mustangs Set For ECAC Semifinal Meet With Four Seed UC Davis

The SMU equestrian team has eagerly awaited quarterfinal results on Thursday, as the ECAC Conference Tournament starts up in Harrington, Delaware.

The top-seeded Mustangs (8-6, 4-1 ECAC), awarded with a first-round bye, are now set to face fourth-seeded UC Davis in the semifinal round on Friday at 8:30 a.m.

SMU is 2-0 all-time against UC Davis, including a 14-6 win in which the Mustangs posted 8-2 record in Jumping Seat events while going 6-4 against the Aggies on the Western side.

Flat
ECAC Flat Rider of the Year Taylor Madden enters Friday's contest with a 10-1-1 record on the year. The sophomore has not lost in the Flat since hosting No. 2 Georgia on Oct. 30.

Madigan Eppink claimed a pair of wins in the Mustangs' final weekend versus Sweet Briar and No. 3 Texas A&M to improve to 7-6.

Freshman Hensley Humphries capped an ECAC Flat Freshman Rider of the Year campaign with a 5-1 record, opening her Mustang career with five consecutive wins and earning ECAC Flat Freshman of the Year status.
 
Fences
Devin Seek carries into the conference tournament a 9-4-1 record and one MOP, earned in an 86-point performance against TCU, that capped a four-meet win streak for the senior.

Junior Miranda Seade notched her second MOP award of the season in a 93-89 showing against No. 3 Texas A&M in the Mustangs' regular season finale, improving to 7-6 on the year.

Madden finished the season with five wins in Fences, including two wins in both Jumping Seat stages in the Mustangs' last two regular season contests.

Junior Alex Pielet enters the postseason with an 8-6 record and four MOPs. Pielet won three-straight MOP awards through a stretch which included an event-best 86-point MOP performance against No. 1 Oklahoma State on Nov. 6.
 
Horsemanship
ECAC Horsemanship Rider of the Year Nya Kearns completed regular season competition with five consecutive wins, improving to a 10-1-2 record. The sophomore notched four Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) awards on the year.

Senior Mallory Vroegh enters the postseason with a team-high 11 wins after winning seven-straight, a streak which extends back to the Mustangs' Oct. 30 meet against Georgia.

Senior Megan Waldron earned her third consecutive win against Texas A&M, improving to 6-6 on the year and earning a spot on the ECAC All-Conference Horsemanship team.

Kearns, Vroegh, and Waldron were all named to the ECAC All-Conference Horsemanship team, claiming three of the four total spots for the Mustangs.
 
Reining
Sophomore Chalyce Head owns a 6-5-2 season record, including a 73-point MOP performance in SMU's 16-2 victory over Delaware State on Jan. 29, earning the ECAC Reining Freshman Rider of the Year a spot on the All-Conference Reining team.

Junior Taylor Zimmerman, earning a win in a 72.5-point performance against Texas A&M, has not lost a pairing since Nov. 4 at UC Davis. Zimmerman won four consecutive meets, a streak which was sparked by a 71.5-point, MOP-worthy outing against No. 1 Oklahoma State on Nov. 6.
 
2021-22 ECAC Postseason Accolades
Nine Mustangs received ECAC postseason honors, the league announced on Wednesday:
