Mustangs Claim 7-3 Win Over Sweet Briar

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU equestrian team defeated NCEA No. 1 single-discipline program Sweet Briar 7-3 on Friday at the Dallas Equestrian Center, with sophomore Taylor Madden and freshman Hensley Humphries earning Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) recognition.

The Mustangs claimed four of five total points in the Flat, with, Humphries, Madden, sophomore Katherine Delagarza, and senior Madigan Eppink each earning wins over their Vixen opponents.

In her first career ride for SMU, Delagarza earned an 85.5-point score to defeat Sweet Briar's Emmy Longest, earning the first point of her Mustang career.

Madden and Humphries scored 94 and 96 points, respectively, both setting season highs in the Flat, with Humphries setting a new career benchmark. Humphries remained undefeated on the season, improving to 5-0, while Madden improved to 9-1-1. Madden has not lost a point since Oct. 30 versus No. 2 Georgia. Humphries' MOP marks her second-straight and the second of her career, following an 89.5-51.5 win MOP-worthy outing against TCU on Feb. 10.

Eppink, the winner of three of her last four matchups, defeated Britt Larson-Jackson 86-81.5.

With a 4-1 advantage over the Vixens, SMU opened the second half of its Jumping Seat competition in Fences, in which the Mustangs took three of five.

Madden earned her second point of the day with an 83-65 win over Vixen Kacie Freeburg, earning both her first Fences win and Fences MOP of the season, the third MOP of her SMU career.

Freshman Emma Engel made her SMU debut, winning her matchup with Sweet Briar's Isabelle Mesairik 80-79.

Emma Jolly's season tally improved to 7-5 with an 82-73 point victory over Sweet Briar's Longest.

SMU (8-5, 4-1 ECAC) opens its final regular season meet on Saturday at 9:30 a.m., hosting No. 3 Texas A&M on Senior Day.
