Mustangs Fall 11-8 in Season Finale Against No. 3 Texas A&M

DALLAS (SMU) – In front of a packed crowd at the Dallas Equestrian Center on Saturday, the SMU equestrian team put on a show but ultimately fell 11-8 to No. 3 Texas A&M.

SMU opened the first half of competition in the Flat and Horsemanship, in which the Mustangs claimed three out of a possible five points to take a 6-4 lead over the Aggies.

In the Flat, senior Madigan Eppink claimed a 90.5-77.5 win over Aggie Rhian Murphy, winning both her weekend contests to improve to 7-6.

Taylor Madden, in her 91-85.5 win over TAMU's Nicole Leonard, improved to 10-1-1 on the year. The sophomore has not lost in the Flat since hosting No. 2 Georgia on Oct. 30.

Junior Miranda Seade earned a 93-89 win over Texas A&M's Devon Thomas, winning her second MOP of the season and improving to 7-6 on the year.

In Horsemanship, senior Mallory Vroegh improved to 11-2 with a 74.5-69 win over Kayley Riddle, earning her seventh consecutive win, a streak which extends to the Mustangs' Oct. 30 meet against Georgia.

Megan Waldron earned her third consecutive win, edging the Aggies' Cori Cansdale 68-67.5, improving to 6-6.

Sophomore Nya Kearns won her fifth-straight matchup and fourth MOP of the season, defeating Ella Petak with an event-high 77 to Petak's 70. With the win, Kearns' season record improved to 10-1-2.

In Fences, Madden won the Mustangs' only point of the day, improving to 5-5 with an 87-82 win against Haley Redifer, capping a perfect weekend in both Jumping Seat stages.

Junior Taylor Zimmerman earned SMU's only Reining point of the day, defeating TAMU's Marissa Harrell 72.5-66.5. Zimmerman has not lost a pairing since Nov. 4 at UC Davis.

SMU (8-6, 4-1 ECAC) now turns its focus toward Dover, Delaware, where the Mustangs will compete in the ECAC Conference Tournament beginning on March 24.
