Pedigo Wins Individual Title As Mustangs Finish Fourth At AAC Championship

PINEHURST, N.C. (SMU) – After three rounds of golf at the American Athletic Conference Championship, senior Kennedy Pedigo came out on top of the individual leaderboard at +3, taking the title by just one stroke. She becomes SMU's third conference champion in program history. The Mustangs as a team concluded the tournament in fourth place with a cumulative score of +40. This is SMU's best finish since 2017 when they were runner-up. Although they started the day 10 strokes behind the leading Houston Cougars, Tulane came storming back, shooting a cumulative +7 to win the team title.
 
Kennedy Pedigo led the Mustangs once again on the final day. The senior showed tremendous resilience after double bogeying the first hole. She went on to shoot +1 on her front nine with two birdies and +2 on the back for an overall 75 (+3). At the time she finished her round, Pedigo was just one stroke behind UCF's Tunrada Piddon. Piddon bogeyed the final two holes, moving Pedigo into first place. It is her first individual tournament title and SMU's first individual AAC title since 2014.
 
Serena Shah closed her tournament with a final round 78 (+6). She made 12 pars on the day, including a beautiful bunker save in her back nine. The senior shot a cumulative +8 for the championship and tied for seventh place individually. This is her highest career AAC Championship finish.
 
Katie James moved up two spots on the individual leaderboard after her final round +4 (76) today. She made two birdies on her one-over back nine and closed out the championship with scores of 75, 75, and 76. James tied for 14th individually.
 
Ashley Chow concluded the championship with a +8 (80). She was +25 for the tournament and finished tied for 41st.
 
After playing the first round on Sunday, Maddi Olson subbed back in for Megan Daleo today. She shot 82 (+10) with two birdies.
 
Analytical Breakdown:
- SMU finished second in the field with 32 birdies, five behind UCF.
- The Mustangs finished tied for third in par 3 scoring at +18 (3.30).
- Shah finished first in the field in par 3 scoring at -1 (2.92).
- Pedigo tied for third in the field in par 5 scoring at -5 (4.58).
- Pedigo tied for second with 9 birdies.

Round Streaks:
- After double bogeying the first hole, Pedigo shot -2 with three birdies on holes two through twelve.
 
Hole by Hole
- The Mustangs' hole of the tournament was the 500-yard par 5 10th. After three rounds, they shot a cumulative -8 with no bogeys.
- SMU shot -1 with no bogeys today on the 151-yard par 3 16th.
- All five Mustangs parred the 344-yard par 4 8th in their final round.
