Mustangs In The AAC Tournament
The Mustangs won the event in their first AAC Tournament appearance in 2014 after entering the league and have finished in second place four times since.
The Mustangs, who totaled nine under as a team through the third round of last season's AAC tournament, went under par in each of the three rounds at Southern Hills to finish at 12-under. SMU entered the round in second place with South Florida holding a sizeable lead closed the deficit to as few as three strokes coming down the stretch, but ultimately closed the tournament in second place. Goodwin closed last season's tournament tied for second individually, carding an eight-under through the three rounds with a four-under final day.
Petronzio debuted his postseason career with a successful first visit to the AAC Championship in 2021, shooting par-or-better each day to finish -2 and tied for eighth. The then-freshman used 71 strokes in the final round to post his second top-10 finish of the season, and was one of three players in the field, joining his teammate Goodwin, to finish the week under-par on par 3 holes.
