BRYAN, Texas (SMU) – The eighth-seeded SMU men's golf team ended the opening round of the 2022 NCAA Bryan Regional in sixth place, carding an even-par 288 as a team.

An even-par performance for SMU at Traditions' four par-three holes led the 13-team, 75-player field. 58 total pars through the opening round was the third-highest figure of the field, three behind first-place Arizona's 61.

Senior Noah Goodwin and junior Ollie Osborne both led the Mustangs' efforts totaling a one-under 71 and ending the opening round tied for 16th.

Goodwin started the round with a birdie at hole one, then hit par through the remainder of the round to close out at one-under, totaling a round-high 17 pars. Goodwin's one-under at par fours (3.90 avg.) tied a team-low with Osborne, while Goodwin and the entire Mustang roster hit even on par threes. Goodwin and Osborne both hit even-par through four par fives.

Osborne, after going one-over through the front nine, hit a clean sheet after the turn with birdies on 13 and 17 to close out the day at one-under.

Sophomore Nathan Petronzio tallied an even-par performance through day one, hitting par-or-better through 15 holes and notching birdies on 5, 6, and 17. Petronzio's one-under (4.75 avg.) on par fives was a team low.

Holden Wisener finished the day with a two-over 74 hitting even-par through eight of the front nine. The sophomore finished the day at one-over with four birdies.

Arizona currently leads the field at 12-under, with their own Chase Sienkiewicz leading the individual race at seven-under. Fifth-place Oregon State leads SMU by three strokes at three-under.
