Franklin Set for Rowing Australia Under 23 Selection Trials

PRINCETON, N.J. – SMU rowing senior Victoria Franklin was named to the invitation list for Rowing Australia's 2022 US‐based Under 23 Selection Trials.
Franklin, a native of Brisbane, will join seven Australian women at the trials who currently row for University of Michigan, University of Pennsylvania, Ohio State University, Syracuse University and Yale University.
"I'm looking forward to rowing with other Australians who compete here and hopefully get the chance to represent my country," Franklin said. "I'm excited to have this opportunity and I'm ready to just go for it."
Taking place at Princeton University's Shea Rowing Center on Carnegie Lake from June 15-18, selected athletes will represent Australia at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Varese, Italy from July 25-30.
"Rowing for SMU has taught me to be adaptable and ready for anything, so I hope to use that to grow as much as I can as an athlete in Princeton, and carry it into my fifth year in Dallas."
In the 2022 spring season, Franklin was a member of SMU's second varsity eight which - then ranked No. 16 - defeated No. 10 Ohio State and No. 14 Virginia at the Longhorn Invitational. She again rowed with the 2V8+ which won a second consecutive American Athletic Conference Championship, finishing nearly 13 seconds ahead of University of Central Florida - the largest margin of victory of any NCAA boat class at the event.
After helping SMU earn its second straight conference title and automatic qualification to the NCAA Championships, she will compete with the Mustangs this weekend at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida.
