Mustangs Select Gainesville Regional In ITA Kickoff Weekend Draft

DALLAS – SMU men's tennis has selected to play in the Gainesville Regional for the 2023 ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Gators are currently ranked No. 2 in the nation and will be one of 15 teams hosting a four-team regional with a spot in the ITA Indoor National Championships on the line.
The 28th ranked Mustangs will take on No. 36 Mississippi State on Friday, January 27th in their first match of the weekend. Florida will face USF, with the winners and losers facing each other on Saturday, January 28th.
Following the draft, head coach Grant Chen stated, "As we wrap up the 2022 collegiate season, its fun to anticipate the new 2023 season, and the ITA Kickoff Draft does just that! We are looking forward to an exciting and very elite indoor qualifying field. January can't come soon enough!"
All four teams playing in Gainesville competed in the 2022 NCAA Tournament. SMU, USF, and Mississippi State lost in the first round, while Florida lost to eventual champion, Virginia, in the Elite Eight.
