SPOKANE, Wash. – Three Mustangs were named to the 2022 Pocock CRCA All-America Team on Thursday.
Juliet Traylor was named Second Team All-America, while
Peyton Matthews and
Madison van Meel were selected as All-America Honorable Mention. It is the second All-America honor for Traylor and Matthews. Three All-America honors is the most in program history.
Traylor, Matthews and van Meel were in the first varsity eight that claimed a third straight American Athletic Conference Championship and finished 11
th at the NCAA Championships after advancing to the petite final. All three were All-AAC First Team in 2022. Van Meel is also candidate for
2022 NCAA Woman of the Year.
In 2021-22, SMU rowing won a second straight team American Athletic Conference Championship, sweeping all four races for the second straight season. The Mustangs finished 12
th at the NCAA Championships, a second straight top-12 finish after being 11
th in the 2021.
2022 All-America Complete List
Each year the coaches of the CRCA recognize the outstanding student athletes in each Division. Criteria for the award include:
- The student-athlete must meet all eligibility rules as defined by her institution.
- The student-athlete must have rowed at least 75% of the season's races in the varsity boat
- The student-athlete must be nominated by her institution
- The Head Coach of the student-athlete's institution must be a member in good standing of the CRCA.
All-American athletes are selected from those athletes already named First-Team All-Region. Criteria considered for selection include: boat performance, nomination rank, coach's comments, individual achievements, and 2k erg score.
