DALLAS, Texas (SMU) -- The Mustangs are headed to one of the most noteworthy competitions in collegiate cross country this week at Notre Dame. SMU will compete Friday morning against some of the top athletes in the country. Head Coach A'Havahla Haynes said this race will be an important indicator of where the team is at in the midpoint of this season.Â
"We will have a better idea of how the championship season should go after this meet, but it will also allow us a data point to adjust training to achieve our team goals," Haynes said.Â
Maddie Hulcy said it will be a very competitive meet, and they will have to go into the race prepared to run a hard first mile in order to set them up for the rest of the race.Â
"I'm excited to see how the team stacks up on such a competitive stage," Hulcy said. "For me personally, I hope to set a new 5k PR on this course and get in the best position possible to help the team score. I think we have such a strong group of women this season, and everyone is committed to some ambitious goals at conference and regionals, so this will be an important step toward achieving them."Â
SMU currently sits in 5th for the South Central Region rankings after two weeks off of competition.Â
"This group of women has been training well, and the team energy is only getting better," Haynes said. "I believe this group is prepared to compete at a high level."
The race will begin at 9:30 a.m.
