DALLAS (SMU)- SMU men's tennis closed out Saturday at the Styslinger/ Altec Tennis Complex with two victories improving to 5-1 on the season and have won 10 straight home matches.
 
SMU eased past UTRGV with a 6-1 victory making this their 10^th victory over the Vaqueros. The Mustangs shut out the Patriots extending their win streak to 3-0.
 
UTRGV Doubles
 
The Mustangs got the early 1-0 lead by claiming the doubles point. The duo of Liam Krall and Antonio Muniz-Hidalgo got a notable 6-0 victory over Chris Lawrance and Agustin Salazar in the No. 3 spot. After never trailing, Jack Winkler and Julian Steinhausen picked up the No. 2 spot with a victory over Karlo Krolo and Borna Devald 6-3.
 
UTRGV Singles
 
Julian Steinhausen, in the No. 4 spot, won in a similar dominate fashion as he defeated Sam Whitehead 6-3, 6-1. Louis Cloud followed up with a straight set victory over Agustin Salazar 6-2, 6-3.
 
Antonio Muniz- Hildago increased the Mustangs lead as he defeated Karlo Krolo 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 2 spot. At the No. 6 spot, Alex Stafford concluded the last victory of the match as he defeated Chrsi Lawrance 6-2, 7-5. Liam Krall clinched the point for the Mustangs as he defeated Borna Devald who later retired due to injury, 4-1.
 
UTRGV closed out the day with a No. 1 victory as Emilien Burnel defeated Pranav Kumar. Kumar won the first set 7-6, (8-6), lost the second 6-4 which led to a deciding third set tie break. Kumar fought off two match points but later fell 13-11 in the tiebreak.
 
UT Tyler Doubles
 
SMU debuted two new doubles pairings with Antonio Muniz-Hidalgo and Callaway Clark as well as Blaine Hovenier and Eli Susser.
 
The newly formed pair of Muniz-Hidalgo and Clark, playing at No. 2, picked up a quick victory over Jonas Dixon and Yudai Watanabe 6-1. The No. 1 pairing of Pranav Kumar and Adam Neff clinched the first point for the Mustangs as they defeated Joaquin Bianchi and Gonzalez Gernandez.
 
UT Tyler Singles
 
The singles matches brought a whole new energy to the Styslinger/ Altec Tennis Complex.

At No. 3, Jack Winkler brought in the first victory for the Mustangs as he came back from three games down in the first set to defeat Jordi Garcia Portell 6-4, 6-3. At No. 1, Liam Krall dominated in a 6-1 first set victory over Joaquin Bianchi. Krall was challenged in the second set only to win in a dramatic fashion 7-6 (7-4).
 
Callaway Clark, at No. 6, was the first third set victory of the day for the Mustangs as he defeated Yudai Watanabe 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. Blaine Hovenier, at No. 5, was quick to follow with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 victory over Jonas Dixon.

Alex Stafford concluded his day undefeated as he won in the No. 4 spot over Carel Wessel 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.

Louis Cloud concluded the day for the Mustangs in arguably the most electric match of the day. After losing the first set 4-6, and being down in the second 0-3, Cloud came back with 5 unanswered games and eventually took the second set 6-3 forcing a third. With his team in his corner, Cloud took the No. 2 spot with a 6-4 victory in the thirs set over Gonzalez Fernandez.

"We got better today. That was the goal," said head coach Grant Chen. "Their fitness is paying off as that's what these double headers show. These matches are so crucial in development. They competed hard and we are looking forward to traveling to Gainesville for ITA Kick Off Weekend."

The Mustangs are back in action January 27^th in Gainesville to take on Mississippi State.
