Mustangs To Honor Seniors Friday Versus No. 10 Texas A&M

The SMU men's swimming and diving team will face off with No. 10 Texas A&M on senior day Friday at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr McMillion Natatorium. Seniors will be recognized before the competition begins at 2:45 p.m. CT.
 
Scouting Texas A&M
No. 10 Texas A&M is 5-3 on the season in dual action. The Aggies enter Friday's meet after winning their last three meets. Most recently, Texas A&M took down LSU 171-129.
 
Up To This Point
The RV Mustangs are 4-1 in dual action and enter the Texas A&M meet following a dominant 185-73 victory over Boston College. Prior to the Boston College meet, SMU took down TCU 207-93. The Mustangs won the SMU Invitational back in November after opening the season hosting the SMU classic. The Mustangs lone loss was a 214-137 setback at Minnesota.
 
Mustangs In The Recordbooks
Three Mustang relays broke the program record at the SMU Invite. 
 
The Mustangs 200 freestyle relay consisting of Justin Baker, Lance Butler, Cole Bruns and Charlie Kaye set the program and pool record with a time of 1:17.17. The time ranks seventh nationally and earned an NCAA provisional standard. Bruns, Feehery, Russell Exum and Butler broke the SMU program record in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:08.66. Bruns, Butler, Kaye and Sage Sungail broke the SMU school record in the 400 freestyle relay after swimming a time of 2:52.95.
 
Several Mustangs have moved up on the all-time fastest performer list this season.
 
Feehery broke a pair of his own records on SMU's all-time fastest performer list in the 200 IM and 200 breaststroke. Feehery's time of 1:43.45 in the 200 IM remains first on the list in the event and his time of 1:53.17 lands at second in the 200 breaststroke. Feehery became the program's fastest all-time performer in the 200 freestyle after covering the distance in 1:34.48. Additionally, Feehery claimed the top spot in the 100 IM and moved to fifth all-time in the 100 breaststroke.
 
In the 50 freestyle, Butler moved to No. 3 and Bruns landed in the sixth spot. Butler moved to No. 10 all-time in the 100 freestyle. Tyler Barfield is the 10th all-time fastest performer in the 200 breaststroke and Exum moved to No. 2 on the list in the 100 butterfly.
 
Last Time Out
The SMU men's swimming and diving team dominated Boston College 185-73. SMU divers represented the Mustangs at the Georgia Diving Invitational, a three-day event on the campus of the University of Georgia. Peter Smithson was crowned the AAC Diver of the Week for the third time this season after an impressive week at the event. Smithson earned top-five finishes while achieving NCAA Zone Standards in all three diving events. The senior was the runner-up on 1 meter with an NCAA Zone Qualifying score of 328.80. Smithson scored a 340.65 on Platform to earn fourth place and finished fifth on 3 meter with a score of 328.80. Dominic Hoefer and Tyler Coffey qualified for the 1 meter finals. Hoefer finished sixth and earned an NCAA Zone Mark after scoring a 205.25. Coffey's 245.15 landed him in 12th place.
 
Making The Cut
Eight Mustangs have earned NCAA B Cuts this season. Three Mustang divers have earned Zone Standards on 1 meter, while two have earned the accolade on both 1 and 3 meter. SMU's 200 freestyle relay time of 1:17.17 achieved an NCAA Provisional Cut and ranks seventh in the nation.

All-American Returners
Eight members of the SMU men's swimming and diving team earned College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America honors for their combined academic and athletic efforts throughout last season.
 
To be selected as a member of the CSCAA Scholar All-America first team as an individual, swimmers and divers must have achieved a grade-point-average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Honorable mention selections have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at their respective qualifying meets.

Back-To-Back Champs
SMU men's swimming and diving won its second consecutive American Athletic Conference Championship last season.  Greg Rhodenbaugh was awarded Coach of the Year, Cotton Fields was named Freshman of the Year, Peter Smithson earned Most Outstanding Diver, and Darian Schmidt was awarded Diving Coach of the Year.
 
This was the Mustangs second overall AAC title and 43rd conference championship in program history. They have won 18 titles since 1997. SMU won its second consecutive AAC championship and sent five athletes to the NCAA Championships.
 
Returners at the 2021-22 NCAA Championships
Last season at the NCAA Championships SMU set two school records, four personal records, and named one Honorable Mention All-American. Returner Colin Feehery moved up to second in the SMU record book in the 200 breaststroke race. Freshman Cotton Fields competed in his third event of the NCAA Championships in the 200 backstroke, setting a personal best of his own and landing third all-time at SMU.

Holt Hickman Outdoor Pool Is Coming To The Hilltop
With a $2.5M gift from the Hickman family, SMU will soon break ground for a new eight-lane, 50-meter by 25-yard outdoor pool, with 1- and 3-meter diving boards. The $11M project will also include a 20-foot by 40-foot instructional pool that will be used for lessons and rehab/therapy. The addition of the outdoor pool will complete the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center, making SMU the only University in the country with both indoor and outdoor Olympic pools in one facility, further cementing SMU's swimming and diving facility as one of the finest in college athletics.
 
SMU Athletics Launches New Student-Athlete Success Department
As part of its goal of Shaping Champions and preparing students for life, SMU Athletics proudly announced the creation of a new Student-Athlete Success Department. This new department encompasses all student-development-centered efforts such as Life After Ball, SAAC and community service initiatives. Additionally, it will house NIL Education and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programming. Due to a generous donation from Suzanne and Glenn Youngkin, SMU Athletics will be able to grow staffing in these critical areas in our support of our student-athletes.
 
SMU Athletics Celebrates Record Fundraising Year
The SMU Mustang Club broke the all-time fundraising record with $73 million in gift receipts and new commitments for the 2022 fiscal year, which ended May 31. The totals represent an increase of nearly $47 million from the previous fiscal year. It is the first fiscal year in which cash donations and commitments have eclipsed $70 million since the Mustang Club was founded in 1935. Through the generosity of Mustang donors, cash gifts rose 71% from fiscal year 2021 and totaled $36 million. The best-ever performance resulted from the contributions of 3,105 donors.
 
Mustang Student-Athletes & NIL
SMU student-athletes benefit from Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) opportunities through SMU Athletics' conference-leading BOLD NIL program. SMU topped the AAC for NIL Deals among INFLCR partners, ranking No. 1 in Total Transactions, Total Transaction Value and Average Transaction Value. To date, SMU student-athletes overall have nearly 250 total transactions totaling over $572,000 with an average transaction value of just over $2,300.
