DURHAM, N.C. (SMU) - SMU shut out VCU, 4-0, Sunday morning to win the consolation match in the ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Mustangs picked the doubles point and cruised through three straight singles matches clinching the win.

"Positive ending to the weekend with a strong performance against VCU," said head coach Jeff Nevolo. "Jackie, Lana, and Drew did a great job in singles all weekend. The crew is committed to getting better and we look forward to a quick turnaround and two great opportunities in Arizona this week." 

Hadley Doyle and Lana Mavor remained undefeated as duo on Court 3 in doubles as they picked up the first win of the day over Anja Draskovic and Emma Valletta 6-2. Doyle and Mavor are now 4-0 throughout the dual season.

The No. 32 ranked duo of Taylor Johnson and Jackie Nylander sealed the doubles point with a 7-5 victory over Victoria Smirnova and Gabriela Davidescu on Court 1.

The Mustangs stayed in complete control over the match moving to singles play. Jackie Nylander had her first victory over the weekend with a swift 6-1, 6-0 win over Grabrial Davidesco on Court 3.

Drew Morris, the reigning AAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week, defeated Emma Valletta 6-1, 6-1 on Court 4 making her undefeated in dual matches this season while not dropping a set.

In a similar fashion, Lana Mavor clinched the win for the Mustangs with a 7-5, 6-0 sweep over Anja Draskovic on Court 6. The dominate win by Mavor makes her undefeated throughout the dual match season.

The Mustangs improved to 3-2 this season and will be back in action February 2 against San Diego in Tempe, Arizona.
