Dean Latimer Named Assistant Western Coach

Oct 12

DALLAS (SMU) - Dean Latimer was announced as SMU Equestrian's Assistant Reining Coach on Thursday.

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to represent SMU and to be surrounded by such driven, talented girls, coaches and staff who all want the best for one another in the show-pen and in the classroom," said Latimer. "I thank Carol Gwin, Brad Kearns, Laura Persons, & the Athletic Department at SMU for their trust."

Latimer, no stranger to the National Reining Horse and American Quarter Horse Associations, has many years of experience in both associations with specialization in reining horses. As an NRHA Professional, Latimer garnered much success in the show-pen, and has been an active, well respected NRHA Judge while also serving as the Head of the NRHA Judge's committee in the past.

Latimer has coached many non pro, youth and rookie riders to success, including several of his youth  and non-pro riders committing to Division 1 Equestrian teams. He was the 2019 NRHA Youth Coach of the Year, and has coached 3 riders to four NAAC NRHA Youth 14-18 Championship titles at the NRHA Futurity.
