SETTING THE SCENE
•    SMU continues its season hosting No. 5 Oklahoma State in the Mustangs' home opener on Saturday at the Dallas Equestrian Center.
•    SMU opened the season in Burelson, Texas against No. 3 TCU, falling 12-6.
•    The Mustangs captured the school's ninth national championship, and first in equestrian last season. SMU's title claim marks the first time a school outside of the Big 12 and SEC has won the equestrian National Championship.
•    The Mustangs return 24 riders from last season's NCEA Championship squad, including seven All-America Honorees; Lily Anderson - Western, Alexa Black - Western, Emma Engel - Jumping Seat, Chaylce Head - Western, Hensley Humphries - Jumping Seat, Augusta Iwasaki - Jumping Seat and Nya Kearns - Western.

IN THE RANKINGS
•    SMU currently ranks as the No. 3 team in the NCEA's Dual Discipline poll.
•    The defending national champion Mustangs entered the season ranked atop the NCEA's Dual Discipline poll, marking the 29th consecutive week of competition as the nation's No. 1 team.

THIS SERIES
•    SMU is 6-11 all-time versus the Cowgirls, including a 4-2 mark in Dallas.
•    The Mustangs defeated the then No. 1 Cowgirls 10-9 in Stillwater, Okla. to begin the 2022 season as the first of an eight meet win-streak.\

JUMPING OUT TO SUCCESS
•    Elli Yeager went undefeated in SMU's contest with TCU, scoring a point for the Mustangs in Fences and on the Flat.
•    Yeager earned her first MOP of the season in her 87-81 Fences victory.
•    Yeager won both jumping seat events by a combined 19 points after also picking up an 81-69 win on the Flat.

A NATIONAL FORCE
•     SMU capitalized off its momentum from the last three seasons by winning the 2022-23 NCEA Dual Discipline National Championship. The Mustangs made their second consecutive appearance in the national semifinal meet after defeating then-No. 1 seed Auburn in 2021-22. In 2020-21, the program saw many firsts and records broken in its run to the national title meet.
•    The Mustangs finished the 2022-23 season with the best record in program history at 13-1, including a perfect 5-0 mark at home with a 9-1 record against ranked opponents. 
•     In her ninth season at SMU, Head Coach Carol Gwin produced the most successful season of her career, resulting in her first NCEA National Coach of the Year award.
