Setting the Scene
The Mustangs are coming off of their first event of the season - the annual SMU Classic featuring some of the toughest competition in collegiate swimming.
SMU is competing in the Atlantic Sun (ASUN) Conference this season and are the three-time AAC champions previously
At the SMU Classic, SMU finished day one in fifth place with a score of 117 and finished the event sitting in sixth place with 227 points.
Swimmer Jack Hoagland recently broke into two program top fives, he claimed the No. 4 SMU program spot and in the 400 IM with a B-Cut time of 3:45.39 — finishing the race in first place — and the No. 4 program spot in the 500 Free with a time of 4:19.60 — finishing the race in third place — also a B-Cut Qualifying Time.
Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium / Holt Hickman Outdoor Pool
The Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium is the 42,000 square foot home to SMU's internationally-recognized men's and women's swimming and diving teams. It opened in November of 2017.
The Aquatics Center features an Olympic-sized, eight-lane indoor pool with a platform diving area, including four springboards and a 10-meter tower for training and competition. Coaches' offices, men's, women's and visitor locker rooms and a classroom and meeting area are located adjacent to the pool. Spectator seating for 800 is on the mezzanine level.
To further cement this facility as one of the finest in college athletics, SMU is building an adjacent outdoor pool to further enhance this space. Project design includes an eight-lane, 50-meter by 25-yard outdoor pool, 1- and 3-meter diving boards and a 20-foot by 40-foot instructional pool that will be used for lessons and rehab/therapy. With the addition of the outdoor pool to the Robson & Lindley Aquatic Center, SMU will be the only University in the country with both an indoor and outdoor, 8-lane, 50-meter pool in one facility — the outdoor pool is set to be unveiled on December 8 at 11:30 a.m.
