LOS ANGELES (SMU) – Jerry Barton and Maks Silagy advanced to the doubles semifinals round of the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships at USC's Marks Tennis Stadium.

"It was an important weekend to come to Los Angeles and play at USC," said Barton. "We played well overall. There are a lot of positives to take away from the weekend."

SMU's duo began in the tournament's main draw of 16, winning two matches over Cal Poly's Noah Berry and Fernando Fonseca (6-1) and San Diego's Blake Kasday and Nikhil Niranjan (7-6(4)) to reach the weekend's semifinal against USC's Samuel Rubell and Niroop Vallabhaneni.

Barton also won three matches to advance to the tournament's singles semifinal round. Barton defeated Oregon's Matthew Burton (6-1, 6-2) in his first match of the weekend, then taking down USC's No. 63 Wojtek Marek (6-3, 2-6, 6-2) in the round-of-16. Barton's third victory came in the quarterfinals, beating Portland's Luka Vukovic (6-3, 3-6, 6-3).

John Zisette and Kyle Sillman picked up a doubles victory in the qualifying round-of-32, defeating California Lutheran's Loup Sudre and Ethan Sherwood 6-3. The pair went on to retire in the following round.

SMU will host the Ralston/Neufeld Coaches Challenge on Friday-Sunday at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex for its final slate of fall competition.
