DALLAS (SMU) - No. 4 SMU remained undefeated in the American Athletic Conference with a 1-0 win over Charlotte on Thursday at Washburne Stadium.

Jelldrik Dallmann scored in the 55th minute for the winner in the weather-shortened match against Charlotte, who entered the contest unbeaten in league play. The Hermann Trophy Watch List member finished a pass from junior Bailey Sparks, finding the back of the net for his eighth goal of the season.

"I knew I could guarantee a goal if I played it across," Sparks said. "I was more comfortable just playing the ball, and I knew Jelly was going to finish it."

"It just kind of happened, it was an easy finish," Dallmann said.

Leading up to the goal, Dallmann was already tied for first in the AAC in goals scored. Sparks was tied for second in assists.

The Mustangs (8-1-1, 3-0 AAC) now boast a 7-0-1 home record this season and are 16-1-2 record at Washburne Stadium since the start of last season.

"I feel like today was the best game we played and the best team effort we had," Dallmann said. "Everyone, I looked at the stats, everyone today just had a great team effort. We really grew as a team today."

Cole Johnson, a three-time AAC Goalkeeper of the Week, started and played the full time in goal. Johnson one logged two saves against the 49ers (5-2-1, 3-1 AAC).

Following a lightning delay, the game was called in the 81st minute.

Junior Kyran Chambron Pinho played an aggressive match, posting three shots in the first half.

"I'm just happy with everyone," Sparks said. "Everyone came to the game. We knew it was going to be a challenge and everyone stepped up to it. Everyone played their part and did what we had to do."

SMU plays at FIU on Sunday at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT. The game is available on ESPN+.
