No. 2 SMU Falls 10-9 At Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif. (SMU) – The second-ranked SMU equestrian team fell 10-9 to Fresno State on Friday at the Student Horse Center.

Three Mustangs – Hannah Hoch (Fences), Lily Anderson (Horsemanship) and Shelby Clausen (Reining) earned Most Outstanding Performers (MOP). Friday's meet marked the third consecutive meet SMU has received three MOP awards.

Friday's meet began with Fences and Horsemanship events occurring simultaneously.

The Mustangs took home the Horsemanship event, winning 3-2. Lily Anderson got SMU on the board first with her 76-72.5 victory over Fresno State's Kendra Lee. Caroline Nielson also scored a point for SMU, defeating Ella Storch 71.5-69.5. Alexa Black followed for the Mustangs' third point and high score of the event, beating Alex Krebs 77-75.5.

Hannah Hoch scored a Fences-high 85 to defeat Fresno State's Elle Martin (78). Taylor Madden picked up SMU's second Fences point with a 72-67 win over Molly Stewart.

The second half of the meet saw Reining and Flat coincide with the score tied at five apiece.

The Mustangs picked up two points in each second half event, with Shelby Clausen earning a Reining-high 75 to beat Fresno State's Julianne Kelley (72). Anderson scored once more for SMU's second Reining point with a 73.5-72 win over Ashley Jackson.

Elli Yeager scored a 74 on the Flat to defeat Fresno State's Jillian Spencer, and Katy Merchant picked up a 72-69 victory over Elle Martin.

SMU returns to action on Saturday against No. 9 UC Davis at the UC Davis Equestrian Center for the Mustangs' final meet of the fall season. Competition is set to begin at 10 a.m. (CT).
