DALLAS (SMU) - Arianna Stavropoulos has signed with SMU women's tennis for the 2024-25 season, Head Coach Jeff Nevolo announced on Wednesday.
Stavropoulos, coming to the Hilltop as a graduate student after her undergraduate years at UC Davis, led the Aggies in singles and doubles wins for the 2022-23 season and was also awarded the team's Most Valuable Player award.
She was also named the Big West Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week on January 18th for her wins over Portland and Portland State.
"Arianna's maturity and passion for competition stood out to us in the recruiting process," Nevolo said. "She is a proven winner at the collegiate level with great leadership capabilities. It was very clear to us early on that she would be a great fit for our program.
Stavropoulous, who is a former high school All-American (2021), attended the Marlborough School under coach Paolo Caoile. She lettered all four years and was the Mission League Singles MVP in 2018, 2019 and 2020. Stavropoulous also earned the Mission League Doubles MVP in 2017.
In the Big West for the 2022-23 season, Stavropoulous was placed on the Honor Roll and All-Academic Team. She also earned conference First Team honors for doubles play, and conference Second Team for singles.
"I chose SMU because of the great tennis program with amazing facilities and supportive coaching," Stavropoulos said. "My future teammates, Coach Jeff, Coach Blair, Coach Lexi, and the amazing staff were so welcoming on my visit and I look forward to working hard alongside them to succeed in the ACC. I am so excited and grateful to be attending SMU."
SMU won the 2023 American Athletic Conference Championship and earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament. Entering the 2023-24 season, SMU is ranked fifth in the Texas Region by the ITA — along with Hadley Doyle and Taylor Johnson being ranked in the top 20 individually for the region.
