BOSTON, Mass. (SMU) -- Leoni Mierswa ran the second-fastest time in SMU history in the 3k in the first meet of the 2023-24 track and field indoor season. Mierswa was one of the six SMU athletes who all competed and ran a time under the 10-minute mark in the race with her time of 9:26.58 -- a 25-second improvement off her previous PR. 

"I'm happy with that time for my second 3k indoor collegiate run, but there is still much to come," Mierswa said. "I'm thankful for the team and the person they've made me. I can't wait for a little time off and to be back in January competing." 

Kendall Saeger had an over eight-second improvement on her previous PR running a time of 9:45.03 and Kaitlyn Gearin followed closely running 9:47.92. Flora Tissier also ran her best time in the 3k with 9:49.92. Macey Hilton and Faustine Chaboche ran times of 9:55.25 and 9:59.48. 

Maddie Hulcy competed for the Mustangs in the 5k and ran a time of 17:07.34. 

"It was a good night walking away with six women under 10 minutes in the 3k," Head Coach A'Havahla Haynes said. "This group gets better each week. This is what we came to Boston for – times that position us well for both the 3k and the 5k at the AAC Championships." 

The Mustangs will have the remainder of the month off competing and be back in January as a whole squad of distance, sprints and jumps for the first meet of the new year in Houston.
