Dallmann, Westergren Voted As MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalists

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (United Soccer Coaches/SMU) – Mads Westergren and Jelldrik Dallmann were announced as two of the 15 semifinalists for the 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy on Wednesday, based on voting by NCAA Division I Men's soccer coaches.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer and has been awarded annually since 1967.Â
Westergren and Dallman led the Mustangs to a 14-3-2 record and an American Athletic Conference regular-season title. SMU earned the No. 6 seed in the NCAA Championship and advanced to the Round of 16.
Jelldrik Dallmann was a unanimous All-AAC First Team selection and a preseason All-American. He tied for the AAC lead and is tied for seventh nationally with 14 goals, including a pair of hat tricks. The native of Germany tallied five assists on the season. Dallmann was listed on the Hermann Trophy Watch List throughout the season and won three AAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Westergren anchored the top-ranked defense in conference, with the Mustangs only allowing five goals in conference play. He started all 19 games, playing 1,684 minutes. Hailing from Denmark, he has already been selected a preseason All-American, All-AAC First Team and AAC Defensive Player of the Year. He joined the Mustangs after spending his youth playing for Brondby IF, one of the biggest professional clubs in Denmark.
The three finalists will be named for the award on Wednesday, Dec. 13 — as voted on by NCAA Division I coaches who are members of United Soccer Coaches. The 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy winner will then be announced at a press conference at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 5.
