DALLAS- SMU ran out to a 4-1 victory over UTSA on Sunday, the Mustangs 11
th straight home win at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex. The Mustangs improved to 6-3 on the season and have won three straight in the series with the Roadrunners.
"It was great to get back home and to play our first outdoor match in Dallas," said head coach
Grant Chen. "It's been a very special and electric week with the Dallas Open in town and all the excitement. Our players have trained hard all week under a variety of conditions and we were ready to play today. Credit to Adam, Pranav and Liam for really leading the charge in singles."
The Mustangs won their ninth doubles point throughout the season.
Jack Winkler and
Julian Steinhausen coasted to their third straight win Court 2 dropping Tiago Torres/ Tomas Pinho 6-1.
Liam Krall and
Antonio Muniz-Hidalgo secured the doubles point for the Mustangs with a 6-3 triumph over Garrett Skelly and Jackson Ross. SMU's top pairing of
Adam Neff and
Pranav Kumar found themselves down 3-5 to Alan Magadan and Sebastian Rodriguez before going unfinished.
The Mustangs ran off the 1-0 lead winning five of the six first sets in singles.
Pranav Kumar got off to a scorching start on Court 2 with a quick 6-2, 6-2 victory over Sebastian Rodriguez. Kumar picked up his first victory on Court 2 throughout the season.
Liam Krall continues to prove his greatness as he defeated Alan Magadan on Court 3 6-3, 6-4. After being down 0-3 in the first set, Krall responded with six unanswered games and continued to dominate in the second set. Krall is now undefeated on Court 3.
The Roadrunners responded to a 3-0 lead by the Mustangs with a straight set victory on Court 5 as Danijal Muminovic defeated
Jack Winkler 6-2, 6-2.
Adam Neff closed out UTSA's hope of making a comeback as he defeated Tiago Torres in straight sets on Court 1. After a hard fought 7-6 (3) first set, Neff cruised in the second with a 6-1 victory clinching the win for the Mustangs.
Antonio Muniz-Hidalgo and
Louis Cloud's matches were left unfinished on Courts 4 and 6. Muniz-Hidalgo won the first set 7-5 and was down the in second 2-4. Cloud won the first set 7-5 but fell in the second 0-6. Clouds undefeated record stands.
The Mustangs are back in action Sunday, February 19
th at 12:00 p.m. The Mustangs will travel to Murfreesboro, Tennessee to take on Middle Tennessee. This will be the first of three road matches for SMU.
