SMU men's golf heads to Louisiana to compete at the Louisiana Classics. Play begins with 36 holes on Monday, March 13 followed by 18 holes on Tuesday, March 14.
 
The Field
The 14-team field features eight teams ranked in the top 100. Along with the Mustangs and hosts Louisiana, the field includes Denver, Illinois State, Little Rock, Louisiana Tech, LSU, Michigan, New Mexico State, New Orleans, Sam Houston, Texas A&M, Texas State and UTSA.

Mustang Notables
 
-The Mustangs are ranked No. 62 by Golfstat after seven events on the season with two top-three finishes including a second-place showing at the hometown Trinity Forest Invitational.
 
-SMU averages 288.00 per round this season, good for 1.71 above par on average which ranks fifth best all-time at SMU.

 
Zachary Kingsland enters his eighth career tournament with a 72.62 scoring average, 1.05 above par on average. Kingsland finished in 24th at the Southern Highlands Collegiate leading the Mustangs squad. In the first event of the fall, Kingsland had his best performance of his young career with a fifth-place finish at the Cal Poly Invite. The freshman finished in 14th at the Trinity Forest Invitational. Kingsland tied for the lowest round by a Mustang when he shot a 66 in the second round at Trinity Forest. The freshman has posted top-30 finishes at the Jim Rivers and Inverness Intercollegiate.
 
Freshman J. Holland Humphries has played in four events in his career. This spring, Humphries finished in the top half of the field at the Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate. At the Trinity Forest Invitational, Humphries finished in 50th place among the 90-player field. Humphries shot a 70 on the final day to move up the leaderboard. He posted two rounds of par or better at the event. At the Wake Forest Invitational, Humphries finished in 18th led by rounds of 70 and 71 in the final two rounds.
 
Will Sides has three tournaments under his belt and has finished in the top quarter in two of them. Sides secured a T-12 finish at the Cal Poly Invite led by a round of 69 on the final day. At the Trinity Forest Invitational, Sides finished in 20th with his best round of 68 on day three.
 
Sophomore Holden Wisener enters the Louisiana Classics with a 74.07 scoring average this season. Wisener placed 20th out of 90 at the Trinity Forest Invitational. He opened play with a round of 68, his best collegiate score. He finished in 30th at the Wake Forest Invite shooting a 219. Last season, Wisener averaged 73.00 strokes per round and had a best finish of fifth place.
 
Dawson Ovard has a 73.17 scoring average through two events this season. At the Trinity Forest Invite, Ovard recorded a 19th place finish shooting two rounds at below par or better.
 
Alex Valenzuela has a 71.67 scoring average after one event this season. In the Trinity Forest Invitational, Valenzuela finished in the top third of the field, highlighted by a 68 in the final round.
 
Christian Clark boasts a 73.33 scoring average on the season. He has five rounds at par or better and has two rounds in the sixties to his name. His best round of the season, 66, came in his first round as a collegian. Last time out, Clark finished in sixth at the Trinity Forest Invitational, shooting below par in every round. The freshman also finished in the top-20 at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate where he shot five-under.
 

 
 
Last Time Out
The Mustangs finished in 11th at the Wake Forest Invitational highlighted by a victory from Nathan Petronzio. Petronzio shot a round of 67 to begin the par 70 tournament, followed up with a round of 69. In the final round he shot a 71, good enough to maintain a three-stroke advantage over the rest of the field. It was Petronzio's third career title after top showings at the 2022 AAC Championships and the 2022 Trinity Forest Invitational. He trails only Kelly Kraft and Colt Knost for most victories as a Mustang.
