KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (SMU) – Luana Alonso and Nicole Stambo wrapped up action at the NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships in Knoxville, Tennessee, on Saturday.
Alonso competed in heats of the 200-yard butterfly, placing 34th overall in a field of 51 swimmers in a career-best time of 1:56.60. The placement bested her seed of 44th coming into the event. She earned All-American Athletic Conference honors in both events, as well as in the 400-yard freestyle relay and 200- and 400-yard medley relays. Alonso also helped the 200-yard freestyle relay to a conference championship.
Representing the Mustangs on platform, Stambo posted a 45th-place finish with a five-round 196.30. The action was her first at an NCAA Championship.
Stambo posted NCAA Zone scores on all three events during the season and won the AAC 1 meter title, while earning all-conference accolades on platform. She was named the AAC Diver of the Week three times and is a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District selection.
The conclusion of the NCAA Championships wraps up the 2022-23 season for the Mustangs, who finished third at The American Championships. SMU picked up five conference championships, including three from 2023 AAC Most Outstanding Swimmer Lucrezia Napoletano.
