PHOENIX (SMU) – SMU men's golf finished in fifth place at the Thunderbird Collegiate on Saturday from Papago Golf Club.
The Mustangs maintained the fifth place showing that they held coming into Saturday. SMU shot two-under for the day, giving the team three rounds of par or better in the tournament. The Mustangs finished 22 strokes back of first place Arizona State who won the title by one stroke over Arizona.
Nathan Petronzio had just one bogey on the day as he shot two-under for the round. The junior moved up seven spots on the leaderboard and finished in 17th place. Also in 17th place,
J. Holland Humphries recorded his best finish this season. Posting rounds of 69 and 67 on Friday, Humphries finished the tournament three-under par.
Will Sides tallied his fourth top-30 finish in six starts this season after a one-under final day. Sides finished in a tie for 28th.
Zachary Kingsland shot even par on the final day to conclude the tournament in a tie for 45th.
Dawson Ovard recorded four birdies in his one-over day to finish in 78th.
Competing as an individual,
Christian Clark recorded his third top-20 finish of the season in six starts. Clark wrapped up the event in a tie for 20
th.
Next up, the Mustangs head to Tampa for the American Athletic Conference Golf Championship slated for April 21-23 from Pelican Golf Club.
