SARASOTA, Fla. (SMU) – No. 15 SMU Rowing recorded eight top-two finishes on Friday at the first day of competition at the Big 10 Invitational from Nathan Benderson Park.
SMU posted two victories on a day that included 10 races for the Mustangs. In the morning session, SMU started the day with a second-place finish in the second varsity eight followed by a third-place showing in the first varsity eight. SMU then won the second varsity four race with a time of 7:18.561 besting Indiana and Michigan.
To conclude the morning. SMU placed second in the first varsity four finishing ahead of No. 13 Michigan and Indiana followed by a third-place finish in the third varsity four.
In the afternoon, the Mustangs started with a second-place finish, 1.870 seconds behind Ohio State in the second varsity eight.
SMU registered back-to-back second-place finishes in the first varsity eight and the second varsity four.
SMU won the first varsity four race with a nearly five second advantage over Ohio State. The Mustangs finished the day with a second-place finish in the third varsity four beating out Iowa and Indiana.
SMU returns for day two of the Invite with five races slated for the Mustangs on Saturday. SMU racing begins at 8:50 a.m. ET / 7:50 a.m. CT.
