SMU stayed close to home this weekend and competed at the North Texas Classic on Saturday. Head Coach A'Havahla Haynes said the weekend was focused on working on the individual performances.
"Many of the women ran new distances or competed in their non-specific event to gain speed or strength," Haynes said. "Most ended the competition with season bests and personal bests."
Sophomore Maykayla Jackson had a great weekend with personal bests in both the long jump and the triple jump – winning the triple jump with a distance of 12.64 meters. Raelyn Roberson posted a season's best jump in the long jump with a distance of 5.96 meters, which placed her first amongst the competition.
Freshman Camryn McPhaul also achieved a personal best with her time of 25.10 in the 200. Senior Whitney Williams moved up to the 800 this week where she ran a time of 2:26.35 while some of the distance athletes moved down to the 400. Macey Hilton placed 10th with a time of 57.10 and Leoni Mierswa placed 15th with a time of 59.13.
Olivia Dobson ran the 100-meter hurdles and placed eighth with her time of 15.73.
The 4x400 relay consisting of Mierswa, Williams, Hilton and Mackenzie Montandon ended the competition with a time of 3:51.24 for third place.
"What is great going forward is that everyone this outdoor season has seen improvement and momentum is building," Haynes said.
The Mustangs will be back in action next weekend in California.
