The Mustangs will open up their 2023 cross country season at the Cowboy Preview in Stillwater on Friday. SMU will be racing half of their 15 athletes on the team for this first race.Â
"We are looking to execute a team-centered race plan: run together comfortably hard through 2k and have a strong push into the final k," Head Coach A'Havahla Haynes said. "The idea is to place all seven athletes in the top half of the race amidst a competitive season opener."Â
Heading into the start of the season, SMU ranks highly in the South Central Region with a ranking of second behind Arkansas who will be present at tomorrow's race. In addition to the host school Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Central Oklahoma, Oklahoma, and Tulsa will race in tomorrow's meet.Â
In addition to returners Jessie Crowley, Kaitlyn Gearin, Macey Hilton, Leoni Mierswa and Kendall Saeger, two new Mustangs will take the course. Graduate transfer Megan Aaron and transfer Flora Tissier will make their debut as Mustangs in Stillwater.Â
The women's 3k race will start at 8:45 a.m. tomorrow morning.Â
