SETTING THE SCENE
•   No. 3 SMU heads opens the 2024 spring season with back-to-back home meets against No. 8 Delaware State (Fri.) and South Dakota State (Sat.) at the Dallas Equestrian Center.
•   SMU finished the first half of the season 4-2 with three top-five wins over No. 5 Oklahoma State, No. 4 Texas A&M and No. 2 Auburn.
•   The Mustangs have won eight consecutive home meets at the Dallas Equestrian Center dating back to the 2022-23 season.
•   Nine Mustangs have earned a total of 15 MOPs through SMU's first six meets.
IN THE RANKINGS
•   SMU finished the fall season as the No. 3 team in the NCEA's Dual Discipline poll.
•   The defending national champion Mustangs entered the season ranked atop the NCEA's Dual Discipline poll, marking the 29th consecutive week of competition as the nation's No. 1 team.
THE SERIES
•   SMU is 14-6 all-time against Delaware State and 10-1 versus South Dakota State.
•   The Mustangs defeated Delaware State 19-1 last season at the Dallas Equestrian Center.
•   SMU last met South Dakota State in 2021, beating the Jack Rabbits 15-4 at the Dallas Equestrian Center.Â

A NATIONAL FORCE
•    SMU capitalized off its momentum from the last three seasons by winning the 2022-23 NCEA Dual Discipline National Championship. The Mustangs made their second consecutive appearance in the national semifinal meet after defeating then-No. 1 seed Auburn in 2021-22. In 2020-21, the program saw many firsts and records broken in its run to the national title meet.
•   The Mustangs finished the 2022-23 season with the best record in program history at 13-1, including a perfect 5-0 mark at home with a 9-1 record against ranked opponents.Â
•    In her ninth season at SMU, Head Coach
Carol Gwin produced the most successful season of her career, resulting in her first NCEA National Coach of the Year award.Â
•   The Mustangs return 24 riders from last season's NCEA Championship squad, including seven All-America Honorees
