DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU men's swimming & diving program has signed seven swimmers and one diver for the class of 2025, the program announced.
Information on the seven new Mustangs can be found below. Rankings are by SwimCloud and personal bests are SCY, unless otherwise noted.
Aidan Arie | Fly | Costa Mesa, California
Top Times Prior to SMU: 100 Fly (48.28), 200 Fly (1:49.63), 50 Free (22.77)
Aidan Arie comes to the Hilltop as a fly specialist from Costa Mesa, California. He is a three-time Wave League high-point winner, 2023 Wave League Most Valuable Swimmer, part of Newport Harbor High School's Wave League Championship team in 2024 and was selected as onoe of the top 15 athletes at NHHS in 2023. A swimmer for the Irvine Novaquatics, Arie has competed in the Winter Junior Nationals twice and was part of the Novaquatics' Club National Team.
Andy Baklanov | Back & IM | Leawood, Kansas

Andy Baklanov comes to SMU as a back and IM swimmer from Leawood, Kansas. He is a four-time member of the All-State team, five-time Missouri state champion, state record holder in the 200 IM, 2024 All-American and 2024 Missouri State Swimmer of the Year. He also was a finalst at Junior Nationals, and his team has won three state championships during his time there. Baklanov is the top-ranked swimming recruit out of the state of Kansas.
Francis Brennan | Mid-Distance Free, Back & IM | Belleville, Ontario

Francis Brennan joins the Mustangs for 2025-26 as a native of Belleville, Ontario. Brennan boasts multiple medals at Canadian Nationals and was a member of the Canadian Junior National Team this year. While representing his country at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Australia, he advanced to finals in five individual events along with being a member of Canada's bronze-medal-winning 400 free relay squad. Brennan is the fifth-ranked swimming recruit out of Ontario for the Class of 2025.
Grant Cates | Diver | Swayzee, Indiana
Highly-touted Diver Grant Cates joins the Mustangs' diving squad as a native of Swayzee, Indiana. Cates was recently tabbed as the fifth-ranked diving recruit of the class of 2025 by SwimSwam, and will arrive in Dallas following a very successful high school career. Over the summer, he advanced to finals on 1-meter, 3-meter and platform at the USA Diving Junior National Championships. Cates also placed third at the Indiana State Championships in 2024 along with winning a Sectional Diving Championship.
Trey Clervi | Breast | Columbia, Missouri
Top Times Prior to SMU: 100 Breast (53.95), 200 Breast (2:01.88)
Trey Clervi joins SMU as a breaststroke swimmer from Columbia, Missouri. Clervi is a two-time State Champion in the 100 breast, and he ranks as the second best swimming recruit out of Missouri.Â
George Gonzalez | Sprint Free | Miami, Florida
Top Times Prior to SMU: 50 Free (20.05), 100 Free (43.61), 200 Free (1:37.73)
George Gonzalez arrives on the HIlltop as a sprint free swimmer from Miami. He is a four-time state champion in the 50 and 100 free, and his team was state champions. He ranks as the seventh-best swimming prospect in the state of Florida for the class.
Made Aubrey Jaya | Free & IM | Flower Mound, Texas

Made Aubrey Jaya comes to SMU as a native of nearby Flower Mound. During the 2024 Texas State Championships, Jaya advanced to finals in two individual events and two relay events and was a member of Flower Mound's bronze-medal winning 200 medley relay squad. He also competed for Lakeside Aquatics Club, and is ranked the 18th swimming recruit out of Texas for the class.
Zachary Power | Fly & Free | Reno, Nevada

A native of Reno, Nevada, Power comes to the Hilltop as a fly and free swimmer. In his career thus far, Power has broken the Nevada state record in the 200 medley relay and boasts 10 club records with the Lakeridge Swim Team. He comes to the Hilltop as the fourth-ranked swimming recruit out of Nevada for the class.
