Mustangs Reach 12 NCAA B Cuts On Final Day Of SMU Invite

DALLAS (SMU) – The 21st-ranked SMU men's swimming & diving team earned 12 NCAA B Cuts on the final day of the SMU Invite on Saturday at Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center.

Platform Diving
John Dymond placed 10th in the final diving event of the Invite with a score of 202.40.

1650 Free
In the mile, Laszlo Galicz led the Mustangs with a mark of 14:54.77 to make himself the second-fastest performer in SMU program history. His time was also a B cut. Also earning a B cut in the event were Jack Forrest (15:04.70) and Mark Van Eybergen (15:13.21), who finished fourth and sixth, respectively.

Hunter Lund also saw action in the event, taking eighth with a mark of 15:32.27.

200 Back
In the A final, Jack Berube and Rob McCall both earned B cut times of 1:43.04 and 1:43.75 to place fourth and sixth. Berube's time makes him the sixth-fastest performer in program history.

Eric Stelmar also saw action in the A final after recording a B cut in prelims of 1:42.63. The time placed Stelmar as the fourth-fastest performer in SMU history.

The B final saw Asher Good place ninth with a mark of 1:44.13, while Russell Exum touched the wall in 1:46.86 to take 12th.

100 Free
Harold Lockhart became the second-fastest performer in SMU history with a B cut time of 42.73 as the top finisher in the B final.

During the A final, Lance Butler placed sixth with a mark of 43.55. Jack Moore and Chris Mykkanen tied for 11th with a time of 43.58. Also in the B final were Eli Likins and Michael Ripper, who touched the wall in 44.15 and 44.34 respectively.

Leif Bouwman (44.19), Kaleb Ikbal (44.85), Connor McClintic (45.10), Graham Hohnbaum (45.46) and Cameron Thompson (45.45) also made appearances in the evening finals.

200 Breast
Three Mustangs earned B Cut times in the event, with Joe Rusnock (1:56.00) and Angus Corbeau (1:56.76) taking sixth and seventh, respectively. Kristaps Mikelsons also reached the B Cut with a mark of 1:56.77.

Rusnock also earned a spot on SMU's top-performers list at eighth.

Joe Umhofer placed 14th with a time of 2:00.58, while Ewan Lonergan touched the wall in 2:05.81 to take 16th.

200 Fly
Cotton Fields led the Mustangs with a B cut time of 1:43.56 to take second. Nico Sobenes and Ryan Peckham also competed in the A final, touching the wall in 1:45.48 and 1:46.12, respectively, to take fifth and sixth.

Ben Longeway earned a time of 1:51.26 to take 14th in the B final.

400 Free Relay
The Mustangs A relay squad of Sage Sungail, Harold Lockhart, Chris Mykkanen and Lance Butler placed second with a time of 2:51.18. Sungail's leadoff split of 43.12 was a B Cut in the 100 free and moved him up to sixth on SMU's top-performers list.

SMU's B relay team of Jack Moore, Leif Bouwman, Eli Likins and Michael Ripper placed fifth with a mark of 2:54.75, while the C relay team of Kaleb Ikbal, Connor McClintic, Graham Hohnbaum and Cameron Thompson finished in ninth after recording a time of 2:59.34.

Up Next
The Mustangs return as a team in the new year, where the diving squad will open up 2025 at the Georgia Diving Invitational on January 3-5. The full team will be back in action on January 11 to face top-ranked Texas in Austin.
