DALLAS (SMU) – Four SMU men's tennis players –
Trevor Svajda,
Jerry Barton,
Huntley Allen and
Julian Steinhausen – were awarded wild cards into the 2024 Dallas Open.
Both Svajda and Barton were selected as singles qualifying wild cards, with Allen and Steinhausen to join forces in the main draw of the doubles field.
Svajda and Barton will play back-to-back in the first round of qualifying matches on Sunday. Svajda will take on Nicolas Moreno De Alboran and Barton will face Denis Kudla.
This will be Svajda's second ATP level tournament appearance of the spring after competing at the USTA Southern California Open in January. There, the California native earned his first ATP main draw victory against Tennys Sandgren (0-6, 7-6(4), 7-6(3)).
Allen and Steinhausen, who ranked No. 60 in the ITA's final fall doubles poll, will face Emilio Nava and Ben Shelton in the main draw of the tournament's doubles field.
Svajda, Barton, Allen and Steinhausen will join senior
Adam Neff as this season's five Mustangs competing in the Dallas Open. Neff, who was previously selected in November as a main draw wild card to headline the tournament's College Night, will face off with Australia's Jordan Thompson in the main draw of the singles field.
The tournament's qualifying rounds begin Sunday at 11 a.m. at SMU's Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex.
