Morris, Johnson Compete In Doubles Exhibition in Dallas Open

Feb 5

DALLAS (SMU) — Two SMU women's tennis players — Drew Morris and Taylor Johnson — participated in the Dallas Open's Women's Tennis Classic with professionals Genie Bouchard and Caroline Wozniacki on Saturday, Feb. 3.

Morris paired with Wozniacki while Johnson teamed up with Bouchard for a crossover doubles exhibition match between collegiate and professional tennis in front of an eager crowd.

"Being picked to play in the exhibition with Caroline was one of the greatest memories I will have in my life," Morris said. "It was so cool to get to play and talk to somebody of that caliber and was such an awesome experience. And to be able to do it in front of friends, family and teammates was even better."

Johnson and Bouchard won the match, 7-5.

"Participating in the Dallas Open alongside tennis legends like Caroline and Genie was an incredible opportunity," Johnson said. "Having admired them since my childhood, sharing the court with them is an experience I'll treasure forever."

Eight sessions remain prior to semifinals and finals, with finals taking place on Sunday at 11 a.m. in SMU's  Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex.
