DALLAS, Texas (SMU) -- Funminiyi Olajide will make her first appearance at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend in the Long Jump. Her jump of 6.53 meters at the AAC Championships has placed her seventh in the nation.Â
"The NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships showcases the best track and field athletes in the world," Head Coach A'Havahla Haynes said. "Making the NCAA Championship has been a goal for Funminiyi and Coach Brobst since day one."Â
Olajide said her jump at conference that moved her up on the NCAA qualifying list brought her relief after struggling to make nationals previous years, and it feels great to be in a comfortable position headed into the meet with the top 16 athletes qualifying. Nationals, to her, is an opportunity to compete against the best.Â
"My goal for the meet is to keep the momentum going," Olajide said. "I think the time I've been spending with God has contributed to my success this season."Â
Haynes said both Coach Austin Brobst and Olajide have been in constant pursuit to be better and achieve one's goal.Â
"Together, Funminiyi has elevated to a top-tier long jumper," Haynes said.Â
The meet is being held in Boston for the first time beginning on Thursday, March 7th and concluding on Saturday, March 9th. The Women's Long Jump will be on Friday beginning at 6 p.m. (CT) with finals following.Â
