BROOKSVILLE, Fla. (SMU) – SMU women's golf leads The American Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship after one round at Southern Hills Golf Club.
The Mustangs were in contention throughout the first day of competition at the AAC Championship. They shot 10-under, one off a top 10 round in SMU history. At times the Mustangs sat in second behind three different teams, South Florida, FAU and North Texas. SMU would overcome each team to hold a one stroke lead over second-place ECU at the day's end. In their quest to repeat at the conference championship, three Mustangs sit in the top seven.
Sophomore
Mackenzie Lee is one stroke off the lead in second place after a five-under round one. Lee's day was highlighted by an eagle on the par four ninth hole. She birdied three of her final five holes to climb to within striking distance of the leader.
Emily Odwin sits in a tie for seventh after an impressive AAC Championship debut. She birdied her final hole to bring her to three under and secure a spot in the top 10. Odwin is in search of her fourth top 10 showing in just seven starts as a Mustang.
