INDIANAPOLIS (SMU) – SMU Rowing earned a bid to the NCAA Rowing Championships in Bethel, Ohio announced by the NCAA on Tuesday.
The Mustangs were selected to the NCAA Championships as winners of the American Athletic Conference Rowing Championships. The Mustangs will join 10 other conference winners along with 11 at large selections heading to the Championships on May 31-June 2. SMU is seeded No. 21.
Under first year head coach
Chase Graham, SMU won its fourth straight AAC title with their victory at Melton Lake. The Mustangs captured victories in the second varsity eight, first varsity four, and second varsity four.
Five Mustangs were named first team all-conference:
Emily Baker,
Lauren Bilafer,
Anne Ensley,
Grace Knudson,
Sarah Wood. Three Mustangs earned second team all-conference status,
Macey Adley,
Claire Murphy and
Carly Wright.
Last season at the NCAAs, the Mustangs finished in ninth, the best mark in program history. They scored 85 points, the most by an AAC squad. The team made the petite final in all three boats. In the first varsity eight, the team finished in seventh-place nationally by winning the petite final. They finished the season as the ninth ranked team in the Pocock Coaches Poll.
This years NCAA Championship run from Friday, May 31 through Sunday, June 2 at East Fork/Harsha Lake in Bethel, Ohio (hosted by Marietta College and the Cincinnati USA Sports Commission).
