DALLAS, Texas (SMU) — SMU's Funminiyi Olajide will be competing at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Thursday, June 6th in the long jump. She qualified for the championship meet with a jump of 6.70 meters — a new personal best and school record.
"At NCAAs, I just want to perform the way I know I can," Olajide said.
Olajide's stellar outdoor season comes after an indoor season where she also reached nationals. She placed 10th at this year's NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship— the highest placement by a Mustang at Nationals since 2011. At the outdoor qualifying meet, she had the seventh furthest jump out of both the West and East.
"The NCAA Outdoor Championships on the heels of an Olympic Games year is special," Head Coach A'Havahla Haynes said. "I want to see Funminiyi put it all out there, perform her best and see where it can take her."
The long jump will begin at 5 p.m. (CST).
