KALAMAZOO, Mich. (SMU) — SMU Men's Tennis sophomore
Trevor Svajda enters the USTA Boys National Championships as the No. 1 seed in the singles.
The tournament will be held in Kalamazoo, Michigan, with first-round matches starting on Aug. 2 and the finals played on Aug. 11.
Svajda will be competing in the tournament's singles and doubles bracket. He earns a first-round bye in the singles and awaits the winner of Pierce Shaya from Michigan versus Cyrus Zia from Washington, D.C. in the round of 128.
In the doubles bracket, Svajda pairs with fellow Southern Californian Kaylan Bigun, who played in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Wimbledon Juniors. They received a first-round bye and will wait for the winner of Ian Bracks (Oklahoma) and Evan Burnett (Northern California) versus Austin Cohen (Southern Arizona) and Rishi Dore (Ohio Valley) in the second round scheduled for Saturday.
The USTA Boys National Championships will be Svajda's fourth tournament this summer. He made the quarterfinals of the Little Rock ATP Challenger Tour (May 27), the round of 32 of the Tyler ATP Challenger Tour (June 3) and the semifinals of the ITF M15 Rancho Santa Fe, CA (June 17).
Svajda moved up 16 spots in the ATP Tour rankings in July as he currently sits at #641 in the world.
The 2024 American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year finished as the USTA Boys National Championships runner-up in 2023. He became the first Mustang to advance in the NCAA Individual Championships singles bracket since Johan Brunstrom in 2004. He fell in the second round to Arizona State's Murphy Cassone. He also helped the Mustangs make their third consecutive NCAA Tournament.
