TEMPE, Ariz. (ITA/SMU) — SMU Men's Tennis sophomore Trevor Svajda was ranked no. 19 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Preseason Singles Rankings, as announced by the association Tuesday.
Â
Svajda is among 125 players ranked in the ITA Preseason Singles Poll. He ended last season ranked 44th, reaching as high as no. 33.
Â
The San Diego native played on the first flight for the Mustangs and went 16-8 last season. He was the first Mustang to advance in the NCAA Individual Championships singles bracket since Johan Brunstrom in 2004.
Â
Svajda defeated Texas Tech's Ollie Wallin (6-4, 1-6, 6-3) in the round of 64 of the NCAA Individual Championships before falling in the second round to 11th-ranked Murphy Cassone from Arizona State (6-3, 5-7, 6-2).
Â
After joining SMU in January, the 2024 American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year led SMU to a 17-11 overall record.
Â
"I'm very excited to get the season going," said Svajda. "I didn't get a chance to play at the fall of 2023 since I started in January, so one of my goals is to make the NCAA Individual Championships in November."
Â
In the summer, Svajda improved to no. 630 in the Association of Tennis Professionals Tour rankings, jumping 419 ranking spots through the last six months. He made it to the semifinal round in the singles and doubles bracket of the USTA Boys' 18 & Under National Championships on Aug. 11.
