DALLAS (SMU) – SMU resumes Atlantic Coast Conference play when they host No. 13 Virginia Tech, Friday.

The Mustangs are sixth on the ACC standings with three points that they won at Cal, Sep. 13.

Earlier this week, Kevin Hudson's squad earned its third non-conference win over UIW on Monday. They have a 4-1-2 record this season, which includes a win over No. 6 Saint Louis and a draw to ninth-ranked Denver.

Mustangs vs. Hokies
  • This match will be the first meeting between SMU and Virginia Tech.
  • In previous matches this season, the Mustangs and the Hokies like to dominate the ball. SMU have outshot its opponents in six out of seven matches this season, while the visitors have done it five out of six times.
  • Virginia Tech is third on the ACC standings with three points from their 2-0 win over Syracuse.

Mustangs' First ACC Win

  • Bailey Sparks opened the scoreline early with a goal in the 11th minute from the penalty spot. SMU closed the first half with the lead, but the hosts responded with an equalizer in the 55th minute of the match.
  • Both teams traded control of the ball through the second half, but Kyran Chambron Pinho became the difference maker by taking back the lead for SMU with a goal in the 84th minute. The Mustangs fly home from California with three points.
On A Scoring Streak
  • The Mustangs have scored at least one goal in 27 consecutive matches.
  • Bailey Sparks is on an individual streak, having a goal involvement in all seven matches this season (four goals and three assists).

The United Soccer Coaches Rankings

  • After week four, the Mustangs received eight votes in the United Soccer Coaches Polls.
  • Six ACC teams were ranked this week, with four in the top 10. Stanford tops the rankings, followed by Pitt at second, Clemson at fourth, North Carolina at sixth, Virginia Tech at 13th and NC State at 18th.
  • Along with SMU, Notre Dame is another ACC side receiving votes.
Scouting the Hokies
  • Virginia Tech is undefeated, with a 5-0-1 record this season.
  • Ethan Hackenberg is the Hokie's primary attacking threat, having scored three goals this season, including two match-winners.
  • Cooper Wenzel started as Virginia Tech's goalkeeper in all six matches this season. He has posted 20 saves with four clean sheets.
