SMU Ties No. 2 Clemson In ACC Opener

DALLAS (SMU) — SMU Men's Soccer drew 1-1 against No. 2 Clemson in its Atlantic Coast Conference opener at Washburne Stadium on Saturday.
 
The Mustangs took the first lead through Mukisa Emmanuel's goal in the 20th minute, but the Tigers tied the match in the 26th minute.
 
SMU outshot Clemson 12 to 11 and took its first ACC play point at the full-time whistle.
 
How It Happened
A physical match erupted as soon as the ball was kicked off. The match saw five fouls between the two teams in the first 10 minutes.
 
At the start of the match that saw end-to-end action, SMU was first on the scoresheet as Mukisa Emmanuel scored a goal in the 20th minute of the match.
 
Milton Lopez swung a cross that found Emmanuel, who shrugged off his defender to score his second goal in two matches.
 
Clemson responded in six minutes as they found the net with a header goal by Wahabu Musah in the 26th minute.
 
The match remained intense on both ends, SMU outshooting Clemson eight to five, but the scoreline remained 1-1 at halftime.
 
SMU had a fast start to the second half, winning seven consecutive corner kicks within the first six minutes of the period.
 
The Mustangs saw multiple chances from Emmanuel and Luis Flores, but they fell short in producing a match-winner.
 
The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
