SMU Defeated By No. 14 Duke At Home

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's basketball program fell on Thursday 81-46 to No. 14 Duke inside Moody Coliseum.

The Blue Devils used a dominant second quarter to take control of the game, as the Mustangs struggled to find consistency after the opening quarter. Duke shot 49% from the floor and outscored SMU 34-16 in points in the paint.  

The Mustangs are now 10-10 (2-6 ACC) overall, while Duke improved to 16-4 (7-1 ACC).

Nya Robertson led the Mustangs with 10 points. She has scored in double digits in 19 of the team's 20 games this season.

Ella Brow added eight points and both Kaysia Woods and Sandra Magolico scored seven.

SMU began the game 3-of-4 from the field as Brow got the scoring started, knocking down a three from the logo. Both teams pushed the pace on offense as Woods kept the game close, scoring seven in the first quarter. Duke led 24-21 at the end of the first. SMU shot 67% from the floor in the opening period.

The Mustangs struggled to score in the second quarter as Duke outscored SMU 22-4 in the period. Magolico made the Mustang's lone field goal attempt. Duke's dominance continued in the second half.  The lead continued to grow as the Blue Devils led by as many as 42 in the contest.

SMU finished the game strong, outscoring Duke 12-11 in the fourth as Magolico scored five in the quarter.
