SMU Student Athletes Help Make Over 7,000 Meal For Families In Need

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's soccer and women's track and field programs helped make over 7,000 meals for families in need in the Dallas Area over the weekend.

Partnering with The Big Event via SMU Serves and Tango Charities the teams helped make a total of 7,025 meals as part of Tango Charities Feed the City Event. The teams along with other SMU students took their time making and packing meals for those in need.

Tango Charities is a hunger-based food organization in Dallas, but the impact goes beyond. The organization is focused on feeding, educating, and empowering communities through healthy and nutritious food. More information about Tango charities and how to get involved can be found here.

The Big Event at SMU is the largest single day of collegiate-led community service in the country. It was brought to SMU's campus in 2018. Hundreds of students signed up to get together and visit a number of service sites throughout the Dallas Metroplex. Their leadership team has worked hard every year since then to continually improve and expand on SMU's Big Event, like promoting smaller service projects like the one the teams participated  in over the weekend. More information on The Big Event can be found here.
