DALLAS (SMU) — The SMU women's tennis team returns home for four straight matches at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex, starting with Thursday's doubleheader against Lamar (2-1) and UT Arlington (0-1).

After a win at home in their season opener against Abilene Christian on Jan. 12, the Mustangs have dropped three straight matches, putting Coach Nevolo's bunch at 1-3 entering the week. The most recent two losses came last weekend at the ITA Kickoff Weekend at the Stillwater Regional. The Mustangs fell 4-3 to Arkansas and 4-1 to Clemson.

QUICK FACTS

• SMU holds a 4-0 series lead over Lamar, including a 3-0 record at home. The last matchup between the two teams was in 2007 when SMU took down the Cardinals 4-0 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
• After dropping their season opener to Rice 7-0, Lamar returned to winning ways with two wins over Alcorn State last week, 6-1 and 4-0.
• Last season, the Cardinals went 9-15 overall and 2-5 in the Southland Conference.
• The Mustangs also lead the all-time series over UT Arlington 14-4 and have one each of the last seven meetings. Under Coach Jeff Nevolo, the Mustangs are 4-0 against the Mavericks.  
• UT Arlington dropped their only contest of the spring season, falling on the road at Houston 4-0. Last season, the Mavericks were 15-8, 5-2 in the WAC.
• The Mustangs have several newcomers on the 2024-25 roster, including three freshmen and two transfers. Arianna Stavropoulos came to the Hilltop after three productive seasons at UC Davis, and Ellie Pittman made the move to Dallas after two playing years at Texas A&M.
• Millie Skelton and June Bjork went 4-0 in the fall season and finished the fall slate as the No. 75 ranked doubles pair by the ITA.
• SMU enters their sixth season of the Jeff Nevolo era, coming off a stellar 2024 season in which they produced a 14-12 overall record, claimed the AAC Championship while also reaching the second round of the NCAA tournament after beating No. 33 Alabama 4-3 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. At SMU, Nevolo is 76-48.
