Soghomonian Brace, SMU Takes Down Central Arkansas

DALLAS (SMU) — SMU Men's Soccer won 2-0 against Central Arkansas at Washburne Stadium on Tuesday.
 
Stephan Soghomonian scored a brace in the Mustangs' dominant showing at home.
 
SMU dominated 62 percent of the possession and recorded a season-high of 20 shots, outshooting the Bears 20 to seven.

The Mustangs improved their season overall record to 6-3-3.
 
How It Happened
SMU was on the front foot as soon as the whistle was blown.
 
Ryan Clanton-Pimentel and Jaylinn Mitchell created multiple chances from both the right and left wings.
 
SMU's biggest chance in the early stages came from Mukisa Emmanuel, whose shot inside the penalty box was saved by UCA's goalkeeper.
 
The Mustangs stayed relentless in their attack and took the lead in the 37th minute with a goal by Stephan Soghomonian.
 
Daniel Escorcia hit a pass over the defense from SMU's half, which found Luis Flores just outside the penalty box. Flores gave the ball to Charles-Emile Brunet, who found Soghomonian in front of the goal to slot the ball for the lead.
 
SMU led 1-0 after 45 minutes.
 
The Mustangs remained in control at the start of the second half.
 
Keeping the ball on Central Arkansas's half, the Mustangs doubled their lead as Soghomonian scored his brace in the 56th minute.
 
Escorcia orchestrated his second goal of the match, releasing Clanton-Pimentel with a through ball on the right wing. The right wing back swung a cross to the front of the goal, which Soghomonian tapped into the net
 
SMU remained the aggressor until the final whistle. Enzo Panozzo and Noah Ervin saw half-chances that could triple the lead, but they fell just short.
 
The scoreline remained 2-0 at the 90-minute whistle.
 
Other Notes
  • SMU improved its all-time record against Central Arkansas to 9-0.
  • Stephan Soghomonian has scored five goals in the last three matches. He has scored multiple goals in two consecutive home matches (three goals against Cal on Oct. 3).
  • Mukisa Emmanuel and Milton Lopez have started together as the Mustangs' two forwards in the last six matches and a total of eight matches this season.
  • SMU recorded a season-high of 20 shots.
  • This is the 11th time SMU has outshot an opponent this season.
  • Villads Landsperg played his 11th 90-minute match of the season. Clocking 1075 minutes on the field in 12 matches.
  • Daniel Escorcia, Charles-Emile Brunet, Luis Flores and Ryan Clanton-Pimentel each made an assist. Escorcia leads the team with five assists this season.
  • This is SMU's fourth clean sheet win of the season. Martin Dominguez recorded his third clean sheet.
What's Next?
SMU will stay home to resume ACC play against Boston College at Washburne Stadium on Saturday.
