DALLAS (SMU) – No. 7 SMU equestrian is set to host its first home meet on Saturday against No. 3 Auburn at 10 a.m. CT at the Dallas Equestrian Center.
The two teams last met twice last season, splitting the series 1-1. The Tigers and the Mustangs have a series record spanning 13 seasons, with Auburn leading the series 12-5. Since 2022, the Mustangs have defeated the Tigers five out of seven times. Most recently, SMU bested Auburn 12-7 on March 7 at home.
Last time out, the Mustangs dropped their match to No. 7 Oklahoma State 12-8. SMU nabbed three of the four MOPs in Ava Blyth (Horsemanship), Augusta Iwasaki (Fences) and Madison Rafacz (Reining). With Blyth's performance, the Mustangs further their streak of consecutive Horsemanship MOPs to 19. SMU has earned an MOP in Horsemanship in every single meet since Sept. 20, 2024.
The Tigers are currently 1-0, defeating No. 8 Baylor at home 16-2. Auburn will take on No. 4 Texas A&M on Friday, Oct. 24 prior to visiting the Hilltop.
SMU had a great end to the month of September, with riders earning both Arion Western Riders of the Month. Sophomore Violet Shetler was named NCEA Horsemanship Rider of the Month after defeating South Carolina's Lillian Laney 78-77.5 on Sept. 26, nabbing the third MOP of her career. At her first-ever collegiate meet, freshman Madison Rafacz bested the Gamecocks' Gracie Mae Stinger 74-73.5, earning the first MOP of her career. Rafacz's performance was also named the NCEA Western Ride of the Week.
