Martin Dominguez led the Mustangs' defense that suppressed Stanford's offense to earn the clean sheet.
SMU became the first team to hold Stanford scoreless and draw at home this season—the first ACC team to earn a point at Cagan Stadium.
The Mustangs are now 3-1-3 in ACC play and have an overall record of 7-3-4.
How It Happened
Stanford was on the initiative at the start of the match, while SMU grew into the game and carved out multiple chances as the game progressed.
The Mustangs had five shots to the Cardinal's eight in the first half but the first 45 minutes ended goalless.
The hosts went back on the front foot at the start of the second half. They recorded four shots within the first 10 minutes of the period, but SMU's defense deflected three of them while
Martin Dominguez saved the other.
SMU's offense grew into the game, held the momentum midway through the second half, and created multiple chances through
Stephan Soghomonian,
Charles-Emile Brunet,
Daniel Escorcia and
Jaylinn Mitchell.
Soghomonian led the whole field with six shots on the evening.
