Soghomonian, Starnes, Brunet Earn All-ACC Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (ACC/SMU) – Three SMU Men's Soccer student-athletes earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference postseason honors as announced by the conference on Wednesday.

Slade Starnes and Stephan Soghomonian were named second-team All-ACC, while Charles-Emile Brunet earned third-team honors.

Starnes earned his honors after captaining the Mustangs' defensive line to six clean sheets this season. He and the Mustangs' backline have contained opponents to an average of only 8.6 shot attempts per game. Limiting five teams (Boston College, Cal, LMU, Oral Roberts and Virginia) to five shot attempts or fewer.

The Dallas native earned two ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors throughout the season.

Soghomonian earned his first postseason accolade after becoming one of the most prolific attackers in the conference. He leads SMU with 11 goals this season and is the ACC's second top scorer in conference play with six goals against ACC teams in the regular season.

The California native was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 7 and Oct. 21. He has scored 10 goals in the last eight matches with two hat tricks against Cal (10/3) and Boston College (10/18). He became the first Mustang to score a hat trick since Jelldrik Dallmann against Temple on Nov. 9, 2023.

Brunet was included in the All-ACC Third Team after playing a crucial role in the Mustangs' second season in the ACC. He has recorded five assists and scored a goal in his first season with SMU, while being one of the most aggressive players on the team with 38 shot attempts.

A prominent figure in SMU's midfield, Brunet controlled the Mustangs' tempo both on offense and defense. He made three assists in the Mustangs' ACC Championship first round 5-4 win against Wake Forest, becoming the first Mustang to make three or more assists in a single match since Gabriel Costa (4) against Temple in 2021.

SMU will take on Syracuse in its ACC Championship semifinal match at First Horizon Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C., on Thursday.
