PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico (SMU) – SMU men's golf won the Vaqueros Intercollegiate by 15 strokes on Tuesday at Playa Paraiso Golf Course.
SMU dominated the field across three days of action. They finished the tournament at even par with a low round of eight under in round two. The team shot a three over in round three to break a tie with UTEP for the top spot. The win marked the Mustangs' first tournament title since the 2022 AAC Championship and 45th since 1985. Three Mustangs finished in the top 10.
Will Sides finished in second place for the tournament. He shot par or better in each of the three rounds and finished at four under par, two strokes off the leader Louis Anceaux of ULM. Sides birdied his final hole to bring him to his final total. He now has 40 rounds of par or better in his Mustang career and has finished in the top two in back-to-back events.
Zachary Kingsland ended play at one-over par for the tournament. He took home a share of seventh highlighted by rounds of two under and four under on the first two days. He has finished in the top quarter of the field in each of the five events this season.
Enrique Dimayuga carded a 70 in the final round to finish tied with Kingsland in seventh place. His best round came with a 68 in round two. He bogeyed just once during the final round.
Matthew Foster shot a 71 to move up the leaderboard. He finished in a tie for 18th place with a three birdie, round three performance. J. Holland Humphries carded a final round 78 to finish in a tie for 46th.
Competing as an individual, Aaron Jarvis finished in a tie for 13th. His best round came in round one when he shot a 69. The top 20 finish was his best as a Mustang.
The Mustangs look to continue their strong play at the Hal Williams Collegiate Feb. 10-11 from Mobile, Alabama.
